The Radiobots project has as its aim producing dialogue systems that can function as radio operators for simulations of events that include significant radio traffic. The state of the art for such traffic is either to use fixed, non-interactive radio messages, or have a human operator take that role, which may end up having too high an operator - student ratio for cost-effective training in such scenarios.
Our initial pilot system was able to handle calls for fire in the Urban Terrain Module of the JFETS system http://ict.usc.edu/projects/jfets/
It can operate either in an automatic mode handling the call autonomously, or in a semi-automated mode, where a human operator monitors and can confirm or edit the information.
